Greg Owen founder of Optimal Sports has always had the desire to work with athletes helping them overcome the challenges they face in the relentless pursuit of continuous improvement. Greg is one of New Zealand’s leading sports scientists, having worked with some of the best athletes in their field, his wealth of experience has enabled the development and the success of Optimal Sports.

Greg graduated from the Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation. He then examined the influence of whole body vibration on knee extensor stiffness and functional sporting performance, producing a thesis that earned him a Master of Health Science with first class honours. Continuing his research Greg has published a number of articles in world leading peer reviewed sports journals. Greg is also a New Zealand Academy of Sport Registered Strength and Conditioning Practitioner.

He has been involved with Strength and Conditioning to many of New Zealand’s elite and professional athletes and sporting teams including New Zealand Black Caps Cricket, New Zealand Women’s White Ferns Cricket, Auckland Cricket, New Zealand Squash, New Zealand Badminton, Tennis New Zealand, Vodafone Warriors, New Zealand Women’s Golf, Manu Samoa Rugby Sevens, NZ Gymnastics, and Auckland and North Harbour Netball Franchises.

Greg leads the team at Optimal Sports, playing a major part in setting the company’s strategy and planning the execution of those strategies by the team. Because he is very ‘hands on’, Greg takes an active part with many athletes. He is passionate about running, growing and maintaining a successful world class business that produces ground breaking leading edge results.
