Racket Sports

Racket sports, such as tennis and squash are rapid, dynamic sports in which players must respond to a continuous series of multidirectional movement patterns including, sprinting, changing directions, reaching, stretching, lunging, stopping, and starting. All these characteristics, combined with maintaining proper balance and technique throughout a match, are critical for optimal performance on the court.
A training program has to meet the demands of an all-round physically challenging, individual sport.
For a racket sport athlete to perform at their best, they must have just the right mix of aerobic and anaerobic endurance, explosive strength and power, speed off the mark and agility.
A racket sport training program must be based on solid aerobic endurance to sustain a high work rate for the duration of a game. Anaerobic endurance is also an essential component so that power over each rally, and in each shot within a rally can be maintained to the same high level. Finally, a balanced racket sport training program should help to prevent injury and over training.
In order to be the best at your game it is essential that you have a racket specific strength and conditioning program. We understand the importance of structuring your training to optimise your training session and benefit your game.
How we coach racket sports athletes
-
We build your aerobic energy system so you’re better prepared to meet the demands on the court.
-
We develop your power output, as greater power allows you to respond
quickly and produce forceful movements with less effort.
-
We focus on improving your agility as it is crucial for good court
movement, allowing you to be in the correct position and provides a
solid platform from which to hit the ball.
-
We develop your muscular endurance, which means that you can apply
force and sustain it over time. It can help you hit the ball just as
hard at the end of a match as at the beginning.
-
Racket sports requires you to make shots that place your body parts in
extreme ranges of motion. Unrestricted ranges of motion will help
prevent injury and enhance performance. We place a large emphasis on
increasing your flexibility.
Results you can expect
- Improvement in your explosive multi-directional court
movement to place your body in the correct position before taking your
swing
-
Ability to maintain your hitting power throughout an entire game so you can stay on top of your opponent.
-
Develop a bigger aerobic capacity to burn calories more efficiently –
stay mentally alert longer by making more sugar available to your brain.
-
Build greater overall flexibility and stability to achieve unrestricted ranges of motion
