Our strength and conditioning specialists have been developing world class strength and conditioning training plans for international and developing athletes for well over 10 years. With the comprehensive knowledge and understanding we have in strength and conditioning we know what is required to optimize athletic performance. Our programs are tailored specifically to meet the demands that are placed on the body throughout all areas of an individuals sport.

What is Strength and Conditioning?

Strength and Conditioning is the physical and physiological development of athletes for elite sport performance. The role of the Strength and Conditioning Coach is to bridge the gap between the theory of training and applied training, helping athletes to become faster, stronger and more flexible and to build their muscular endurance so they perform better and remain injury free.

Strength and Conditioning is about more than lifting weights - it encompasses the entire development of the athlete and what is needed to improve physical performance. This includes plyometrics, speed and agility, endurance and core stability with strength training being just one piece of the jigsaw.

A Strength and Conditioning Coach works alongside a sports coach to assist them in designing specific programs that will address the particular need of the athlete, team and sport. There are many ways a well constructed program can add to the rehabilitation, speed, agility, endurance and strength of the athletes - a periodised program that targets both strengths and weaknesses will produce the best possible performance.

What can the Strength and Conditioning Coach Do?

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will firstly observe game situations to find out what movements and sporting actions are taking place in the game or performance. Through communication with the coach, athlete or players a periodised sport specific action plan will be developed.

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for planning the strength sessions in the gym, developing dynamic warmups, recovery, speed, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning sessions. All programming is based on the competition schedule of the athlete which fits in with the training schedule of the sport and is planned with the focus of peaking for competition.
