Does Travel Effect Your Athletes Performance?...
16-Mar-2010- Most
systems (e.g. physical, biological, endocrine, neural)
of the human
body undergo normal changes throughout the day? This is known as circadian rhythms. - During international travel, circadian rhythms take time to adjust to new time zones.
- This could explain some of the inconsistent ‘away’ performances of elite athletes, as opposed to playing ‘home’ games.
- So addressing the issue of adjustments in the circadian hormone rhythms when traveling could provide new information to ensure more consistent individual and team performances in away games.

The EHM Team are developing new research to better understand the effects of traveling in elite sport. We are also looking for practical ways to improve the training and/or management of athletes to assist performance and recovery when competing in different time zones.
